Snow Day

In honor of tomorrow's impending snow day we made a map of Asheville's Snow Routes.

I learned the importance of saving often during the next part of the class. I worked through the workbook exercises, making maps of county population density, making the markers get larger and smaller based on population size (a graduated symbol map). I made all of the counties different colors (Unique values), I made a graduated color scheme based on population, I made a dot density map (and made it look like there were alot of people in South Dakota. I also made a Chart Map of the race makeup in South Dakota (lot's of white people). Then I got bored and I tried to import the raster data from the sturgis folder. There was alot of stuff that looked interesting so I held down the control key and selected it all. The hour glass appeared and stayed for about 4minutes until it said "arcMap need to close." oh well. best map I've ever done though...

Week 2

Today we made our first map. It was a map of the Schools in the vicinity of Rapid City, South Dakota. Here it is...
I don't necessarily know what I am doing yet, but the software is fairly intuitive and it can do alot. I wish that I had more time...

First Class

Today was the first day of GIS 111. We talked about ArcGIS and some of the stuff that it can do. ArcGIS seems very straight-forward and easy to use. It seems like the software can do alot of really cool stuff. I'm looking forward to really getting into the software.
